Thomas led a workshop on environmental identity at Vive Northwest’s inaugural conference event, “Culturally Diversifying the Outdoors.”
The event was designed to bring together organizations across the private, non profit and government sectors in the outdoor and nature industries to initiate a conversation around a strategy to make the outdoor spaces of the Pacific Northwest more diverse and inclusive of the Hispanic community, to better understand and address the barriers that prevent the Hispanic community from engaging with nature and the health implications of limited access to nature.
The event provided a forum to discuss and identify those obstacles while also presenting effective strategies to enhance communication and provide cross-cultural understanding.
