Green Practices
Sustainable Self is setting the standard for psychology and health care professionals in green business. Learn more about our green business practices below.
Our Office
A three-story medical office building where we occupy 1 of 5 first floor retail spaces. Beech MOB is a steel and concrete structure clad with masonry and glass (storefront & curtain wall), slated for LEED-gold certification. Our office at is constructed to LEED standards and contains bright natural light and expansive ceilings.

The existing structure known as The Beech Street Project or Beech MOB was designed by Ankrom Mosian Associated Architects and was built out by B&G Builders, Inc.
Lighting fixtures by Ledalite incorporate the latest technologies in energy conservation including daylight and occupancy sensors which not only adjust to daylight levels but also automatically turn on or off when they sense an individual’s movement within her zone. Interface carpet tiles were chosen because of their high recycled content. The Forbo Marmoleum on floor spaces is produced from all natural materials. All paints, coatings and adhesives contain low or no VOCs.
Our Transportation
Thomas commutes to the office on his vintage Schwinn World Tourist. For cross town travel, he favors his Bajaj scooter.
The local Zipcar is used when a vehicle is needed. Carbon emissions from all auto and air travel at Sustainable Self is offset through carbonfund.org.
Our office is serviced by the 6-MLK Jr bus line every 15 minutes, and there is free parking around back for those who would like to drive.
There are also bike racks for locking up your bicycle. Clients are encouraged to walk or bike when appropriate.
Our Practices
As a human services and consulting business, one of the main resources we use is paper. We actively conserve and recycle our paper and obtain our supplies of 100% post-consumer recycled products from Gray's Harbor paper.
We source all of our office supplies locally when possible and consider the triple bottom line and our ecological footprint in all decision making at Sustainable Self.
